Happy Hearts, Part Duo

When I started shooting portrait sessions last Fall, I really had no idea how much education I would receive from my subjects themselves. I was thinking about light, and best lighting conditions. I was thinking about the color of grass against gorgeous blue skies and oranges and reds of October in Northern Virginia. I was thinking of aperture settings and depth of field, and what sweater I should wear to lay on my belly.

What didn't dawn on me then was how much I would just enjoy... being part of that moment. And shooting the H family (now that I finally catch up on Part II!) made me realize just that.

Life is so very busy, for everyone. But especially for parents of an almost-2 year old and her adorable baby sister who never stop moving! When we took the time to capture these photos, we just enjoyed.. the moment. We'd shoot a bit, then stop and chat and wonder at how quickly time passes when they're just so.. little. The best part was getting to be silly. Dad making them laugh. He had this incredible way of getting both girls to dissolve into giggles, just by being Daddy. Scheduled laughter time! How can you beat that?!

And with that, part II of an inspiring, gorgeous and enjoyable shoot!

H is for Heart, Happy and Home! Part I of II

This shoot was so great, so rich and full of life and laughter, that I have to post it in two parts.. one in the lavender bows and one in the pink. We'll start with the laughter....and the lavender.

The leaves were still on the ground, so we started having fun throwing them around;

(This was actually before we started; she was sitting on the couch just hangin' out! Happy as a ... baby!)

This family is so adorable, and Mom and Dad are so in love with these two beautiful girls!

Hope you enjoy the first peek!

Part II coming next!..

Bring Your A Game!

Wow, keeping up with this blog is harder than I ever thought possible! I just finished editing the most adorable ballet recital, tutus and curls and darling hair ties! For now, let's go back to Oct. 30th! On to the next family, the A family.

This adorable little gang of four was so much fun; they have a piano in the family, so we got some shots around that, and I saw this great red couch that was love at first sight (for me.) We headed outside where we played around a bit, and I captured the two boys and their loving parents in their front yard. Here's your peek:

Next up, the H family!

Next Up: The M Family

My next shoot with the M family in late October was a crazy, busy, blurred bunch of fun with a spitfire redhead and an adorable quintessential 2nd baby (meaning cute, cuddly, and content.) We shot in the front yard and utilized a cool stone wall, natural light, and Mr. Bunny. Of course. At one point, the Dad started tossing his little girl up in the air, to delight and giggles.. and some great shots! Here's your peek:

Dreams Do Come True!

It's true. Dreams do come true, if you're stubborn enough, passionate enough, and find a few select people who believe in you.

Welcome to my official blog of Colleen Bucher Photography. I've been meaning to start this for some time, but I've been too busy shooting! I will showcase the first shoot I did in this post, then two-at-a-time until I'm caught up. Then I hope to keep this updated within a week of each shoot!

The Fall, the Holidays, the beautiful weather, Oh My! Kept us busy, by and by!

The very first shoot I did was for a friend who shares my name (irony, anyone? Fate?) I like to think that the stars finally aligned in a way to make my longtime dream a reality: taking portraits for families/children, and delighting in the result. Here's your sneak peek of the B family, shot back in mid-October:
